Description
A fine and scarce lifesaving medal awarded in 1894 by the LIFE SAVING BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK. The lettering on the front bar (“PRESENTED TO…)is black enamel and the applied shield is red,white and blue enamel. The area where the incident occurred is near what was formerly the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The medal is base metal.
