Description

Offered for Sale, is this excellent Pair of UBoat Binoculars, as exclusively carried in the German UBoat fleet of the 2nd WW.  These were manufactured from 1941 – 1945.  The majority, as is this example, were made by Carl Zeiss, but a few were also made by Emil Busch [ cxn].   The Third model was made from 1943 – 1945, and identified by the partial  rubber armour, and the presence of tilting rubber eye caps, to a larger eye lens. These binoculars were made with a waterproof cast metal housing. Porro 1 In order to ensure complete waterproof capabilities, the eye lenses were fixed focus, preferably to the eye of the user. The only way this could be adjusted, was to use a special screwdriver, for internal focus alteration.. It is painted with a special, smooth, light green paint, and this example retains a high % of unblemished paint. Stamped to the RHS shoulder, is “7×50/54783/blc”.  Dessicant Cartridges are incorporated within the housing.  The optics are excellent and clear. The objective diameter …1.97 inches [50mm]., and lenses are coated. Complete with a neck sling. [ probably a replacement].  The Okularschtzkappe [ Benutzen  or user cap], is in situ attached by a standard rubber Cord.  This acts as a rain cover to the eye lenses.  One of the best examples of this hard to find, Iconic German UBoat Binoculars that I have  possessed.    H 6.30 inches Width 8.82 inches. Millais Antiques

I have been interested in scientific instruments since my grammar school days, university , and then working as a DentalSurgeon, until retirement from that profession, twelve years ago. My antiques business was set up 37 years ago, having followed the footsteps of my father. Throughout this time I have dealt in scientific instruments, mainly of a military connection. This includes military instruments, microscopes, compasses, Nauticalia, Telescopes, large and small, and optical items and even writing cases.

I attend the Science Fair in,London, and other Antique Fairs, especially the IACF Fairs, at Ardingly, West Sussex, The "Military Odyssey" at Detling, Kent, and occasionaly, the Bisley Fairs, and Birmingham, at the NMM.
