Description

Offered for sale is a nice condition example of this field telescope, as used by British Snipers, during the 2nd WW. It has all the standard features, and is of brass, with the main body and sliding sunshield, covered in a stippled Resin Finish,  used, especially towards the end of the war, as this was far cheaper than leather to manufacture.  This example shows this finish to be mainly complete, with evidence of some repairs during it’s life, but otherwise in vg condition.. In many examples, this is totally missing.  There are 3 brass draws, retaining a good % of original finish, and clear and smooth to the 1st,  2nd and 3rd draw tube. There are no obvious dings or dents.  The Objective lens measures 1.75  inches, and focus and optics are sound, with a vg image. The eye piece has the standard rotating filter slider [ often missing]. The 3rd tube is signed; “Tele.Sct. Regts Mk 2/H.C.R. Son Ltd/OS 126 GA/No 20684/WD arrow”.   Complete with an original 2 piece leather case, now to a fine smooth, patina, sound stitching, and blemish free, and in fine condition. The closing tab is complete with it’s buckle. The  leather shoulder strap is missing.  The o/a extended length is 30″ [76cms], and when fully closed …10.5″ [26cms]. C 1944.  Used mainly by the snipers using the No 4T  303 bolt action rifle, and was an essential part of the outfit issued.
