Description

A silver horizontal sundial by Michael Butterfield,Paris,circa 1690-1700.The dial plate with 4 scales for latitudes 43,46,49 and 52 degrees.Characteristic adjustable bird gnomon for latitudes 40-60 degrees.The reverse engraved “Premier Cadran” with engraved latitudes for 27 European cities and towns.The glazed compass bowl engraved with  Fleur de Lys at North,with a blued pierced needle with octagonal brass boss with crenellated leveller.In a velvet lined pasteboard and fish skin case with silver fittings.
