Description

SOLD – A small size, half circle, brass theodolite, signed on the horizontal plate, ‘Troughton & Simms, London’.
The silver divided circle has a diameter of 4″, the telescope length 7″, overall height 8.5″ (to top of bubble level).

The silvered compass has a diameter of  2.25″, engraved cardinal points, and degrees to the outside and a jewelled needle with locking bar. The glass cover has a small crack towards the edge.
The vertical, half circle scale is engraved to 90 degrees, the reverse with engraved scale and ‘ Diff. of Hypo & Base’.
The telescope gives a good, clear inverted image. All thumb screws / thumb wheels etc in good working condition. No damage anywhere. Contained in oak carrying case (no cracks). The wooden plinth which holds the instrument may be a replacement. 

An unusual size for this style of instrument.
