A small-size French brass sector by Hugé à Versailles, 18th century

18th century

Country of manufacture

Categories: Scientific, Calculating, Drawing Instruments, Surveying Instruments & Mining

An attractive small-size brass sector with the quite rare and almost unknow signature “Hugé(s?) à Versaille”.

It’s a typical French brass sector from the 18th century but here in an attractive small-size (11,7 cm closed / 22,5 cm opened).

The sector is a classic surveying/military instrument engraved with 8 scales : Poid des boules, Les cordes, Les solides, Les metaux, les parties egales, Les plans, Les poligones and Calibre des Pieces.

Marcelin cites only two instruments from this maker. I know also a second similar small-size brass sector in private collection.
