Description

A very rare and splendid example of spyglass/monocular in gilt brass and with an finely carved ivroy with flowers and four little angles.

The monocular bears on the first drawtube the long signature of Chevallier :

“Chevallier ingénieur de S[on] A[ltesse] R[oyale] Monsieur frère du Roi vis-à-vis le marché aux fleurs à Paris”.

The signature allows to date the instrument from 1815 to 1824. The brother’s King is the “Comte d’Artois”, the futur Charles X.

It’s a miniature five drawtubes monocular. It is in perfect working condition and well preserved excepted two very little cracks at the ivory (visible on the pictures).

A rarity.
