Description

Offered for Sale is this fine and impressive Antique Apothecary Outfit. Made in the first quarter of the 19th Century, the main case is finely made of quality mahogany. It consists of 2 front opening hinged doors, each with shelved interiors, as is the central front main body. These shelves are profusely filled with glass bottles, all with stoppers, and labelled with the names of many medicaments. Below the central body, are 2 main draws, containing many accessories, including a set of brass scales, glass measuring devices. and assorted items, as one would expect in such an outfit. The main lower draw has an inset hinged brass opener, as typical of the design of the 1820s-1830s. The 2 main front doors have inset locks/key holes [ no key].  To the reverse, there is a typical sliding door, concealed “Poisons” compartment. This contains a matching set of glass and stoppered bottles, fortunately now empty. To the top aspect, is a period brass carrying handle.  This is one of the finest, and most complete Apothecary outfits that I have seen over many years, and the overall condition is excellent.  The external measurements of the case at ..Height  13.75 inchs X Width 11.5 inchs X Depth 8.25 inchs.

Millais Antiques

I have been interested in scientific instruments since my grammar school days, university , and then working as a DentalSurgeon, until retirement from that profession, twelve years ago. My antiques business was set up 37 years ago, having followed the footsteps of my father. Throughout this time I have dealt in scientific instruments, mainly of a military connection. This includes military instruments, microscopes, compasses, Nauticalia, Telescopes, large and small, and optical items and even writing cases.

I attend the Science Fair in,London, and other Antique Fairs, especially the IACF Fairs, at Ardingly, West Sussex, The "Military Odyssey" at Detling, Kent, and occasionaly, the Bisley Fairs, and Birmingham, at the NMM.
