A very fine example of Dr. Parent’s Artificial Eye. This is a demonstration instrument used in the training of ophthalmologists. It demonstrates myopia, hypermetropia. astigmatism, and various retinal pathologies. The maker is P. Roulet working in Paris.during the last quarter of the 19th century. There is nothing to apologize for here: this Parent’s Eye is complete, in excellent condition (including the lacquer) and it even retains its original instruction sheet. This is far from a common instrument. The fact that an example is not present in the very comprehensive Utrecht University Museum collection, shown in EYE AND INSTRUMENTS (Amsterdam, 1996), says a lot for its scarcity.
