Description

A rare and early single latitude horizontal sundial signed “N Bion a Paris”.

This sundial is from the very early production of Nicolas Bion who started his business around 1675/1680 at Paris. There is no magnetic declination in the compass as in the other French sundials before 1680.

Furthermore, the single latitude is quite original : “pour 46 de / 30 min” what means for 46 degrees and 30 minutes, ie very close to the lattitude of Niort in France or Geneva in Swisswertland.

Despite the glass of the compass have a little play, an excellent original condition for the very early sundial by Nicolas Bion.

Size : 6,9×5,5 cm
