Description

Offered for sale is a brass British Officers Prismatic Marching Compass.  With a hinged lift that has a glass viewing disc with a central sighting fine wire. The main body, again in brass has a glass cover to an MOP disc, on a central pivot. This disc is graduated 0-360*. There is an additional small card centrally mounted, with W-E and a bold arrow N-S.  These were added to help sighting in poor conditions. The disc has an on/off side mounted activator. There is also a rotating bezel. The hinged prism lens is in working order. To the rear face is stamped …“F.Barker & Son/Maker/London”.  There is the original anti slip ring in place. Complete with it’s Thumb/Finger ring. Although undated, the design and maker indicates manufacture C1910, and would have been carried by an Officer during WW1 & WW2 … in fact it is contained in an original WW2 Webbing Case, dated 1942. In working order. This compass was probably a private purchase.
