Description

Offered for Sale is this Antique, late 19th Century, 2 tiered Architects drawing set, contained in a fine quality, fitted and lined mahogany case.  Consisting of a top removable tray, divided into 2 compartments. The left hand contains 11 drawing instruments, 3 of which have Ivory handles, unsigned, but one with a patent number.  The right side has  an unsigned Ivory Secktor, in fine condition, an Ivory Protractor, signed “Thomas Jones 4 Rupert St. London”, and also neatly stamped with  probably the owners name, “W.L.R Ogilvey”.  In the Centre Compartment is an Ebony handled drawing instrument. The Lower compartment, contains 2 Boxwood graduated Rules, both signed “Cary, London”, and to the reverse. “A.G.Little”. Beneath these, in fitted spaces, are 2 triangular,  Rules, one signed “Cary London”, and to the reverse, “A.G.Little”, and  is plain, with no graduations, and the other, unsigned. with a Graduated leading edge. All 4 instruments have a matched patina finish to the wood. Contained in a superb and fine quality mahogany case, with a hinged lid, that has a vacant brass eschutcheon to the exterior, a fitted lock, no key, with a brass eschutcheon to the key hole.  The lid is retained by 2 brass catches. The woodwork is to a fine grained polished patina.  The case measures… 14-1/4 inchs X  5-1/4 inchs X  2 inchs.     Altogether, a very desirable item.         C 1885

I have been interested in scientific instruments since my grammar school days in the 1950s then university at Guys Hospital, London, where I qualified in 1961, and then working as a Dental Surgeon, until retirement from that profession, in 2004.. My antiques business was set up 45 years ago, having followed in the footsteps of my father. Throughout this time I have dealt in scientific instruments, mainly of a military connection. This includes military instruments, microscopes, compasses, Nauticalia, Telescopes, large and small, Binoculars, especially of the German and British Naval forces of the 2nd WW, general optical items and even writing cases.

I attend the Science Fair in,London, and other Antique Fairs, especially the IACF Fairs, at Ardingly, West Sussex, The "Military Odyssey" at Detling, Kent, and occasionaly,the Bisley Fairs, and Birmingham, at the NMM.
