Description

Offered for sale is a  large, compound, monocular microscope by Smith&Beck, London in excellent condition. Inverted horseshoe shaped base, stamped “Smith&Beck&Beck, 51 Cornhill, London, 4124”, twin supports, and stage. The serial number places it in 1860. 

The supra structure consists of a brass support column, with a course focus rack system, controlled by 2 milled wheels, and a rear mounted  wheel for fine focus. The main body racks to a maximum height of more than 50 cm, and closed to 38 cm. The serial number of the microscope and the address, places it from 1857 to 1865.  

Contained in a very well preserved case case (41.5×21.5×16 cm), it comes with five objectives (one of them with correction collar) ,  three original eyepieces plus another one from Carl Zeiss, forceps, livebox, nosepiece and camera lucida (glass is broken), as well as some other adapters.
