Description

An exceptionally early example of a solar microscope by Nairne & Blunt, London c.1780.

All brass construction, 10 inch adjustable body tube, original mirror (perfect), one lens, one ivory slider( 2 cells missing), light reducing cone, perfect mechanics, screws and bracket for window box, no case or other accessories. 80% original bright golden lacquer (losses on body tube only), good optics, spring loaded upper section for slider or aquatic tube. 5″ square base with vertical and horizontal adjustment of the mirror. Large butterfly nuts, perfect rack and pinion for mirror, threaded upper body tube for focusing to slider objects. All original. Edward Nairne and Thomas Blunt ( 1774-1793).
