Description

Very rare W.& S. Jones bright brass 3″ box sextant. Housed in it’s original maroon (Regency period) card case, this near perfect navigational instrument has an unusual worm and screw vernier adjustment as well as coarse adjustment by the pin under the magnifier. The silvered scale reads from 0-140 degrees in 1/10 degree increments and the vernier reads to one arc second. Near perfect cosmetic condition with both green and red light filters intact behind the sliding door on reverse. The only fault is that somebody has nicked the internal telescope to visually align the mirrors while sighting. Works well as an open hole/peep, however and from the top, nobody would ever know. Mechanically, the action is smooth and accurate.
