A very fine example of the large orthopedic saw invented by Heinrich Helferich in 1890 in his important article (“Ein neues Verfahren zur Operation der winkeligen Kniegelenksankylose”) for the history of orthopedic surgery, a new methode of Arthroplasty.

The shape is engraved “H. Windler”. Herrmann Windler is a famous german instrument maker in surgery and in all medical instruments, established in Berlin from the mid-1çth century.

A nice saw with his original wooden handle with elegant brass joints.
