Description

VERY IMPORTANT MID 18TH CENTURY THEODOLITE IN WONDERFUL ORIGINAL MAHOGANY SHAPED BOX. IN EXCELLENT CONDITION RETAINING MOST OF IT’S ORIGINAL GOLD LACQUER. SIGNED HEATH & WING. STRAND. LONDON. THE SILVERED COMPASS BOX HAS EAST & WEST TRANSPOSED, SUROUNDED BY A 360 DEGREE CIRCLE DIVIDED WITH 4 x 90 DEGREE QUADRANTS. THE TELESCOPE GIVING A ERECT IMAGE, THE 8″INCH 360 DEGREE CIRCLE IS DIVIDED IN 1 DEGREE DIVISIONS, VERNIER READING TO 5′ MINUTES OF ARC., THERE IS ALSO AN EXTRA SCALE: BREADTH 90-0-90 LEFT & RIGHT. THE VERTICAL INVERTED HALF CIRCLE IS AGAIN READING TO 5 MINUTES OF ARC., IT HAS TWO MORE SCALES 100-0 — 0-100 FEET DEPRE n & ELEVA n.  & 25-0-25 DIFF  of HYPO AND BASE IN LINKS.
