Description

Excellent oxidised brass theodolite signed around the horizontal plate, ‘Stanley, London. 112277. Patent’. The 4.5 inch silver vertical circle is divided into four quadrants, each engraved from 0 – 90 in degrees, divided to a half degree, the verniers reading 1 minute of arc. The enclosed horizontal silver scale is readable through the two micrometers with silver vernier wheels, the top prisms on each have pull / push focussing.

The 3 inch floating compass is centrally jewelled and is engraved from 0 – 360 degrees to the outside edge of dial and readable to a half degree, through the small brass telescope fixed to the side. The telescope can be focussed by slowly turning the eyepiece.

The main telescope measures 9″ long ( 22.5 cms ) racked in and gives a good clear, inverted image. Instrument height 12″ ( 30 cms ).

This is a very clean example and retains all golden lacquer to the thumb wheels, screws and adjusters.

In original fitted mahogany case (free of splits) with two calibration certificates dated 1913 and 1963. With additional outer protective canvas case with straps.

GB Scientific Inspirations

Scientific Inspirations

I live in Lancashire (U.K.) and have been a dealer and collector of scientific and nautical instruments for a number of years. My stock has included some fine items from museums and colleges, which were surplus to their requirements. I occasionally purchase some interesting items from abroad, having established some reliable sources.
