Description

An octagonal equinoctial dial, brass and silvered,with the original finish throughout and in very crisp condition.The base plate is engraved with the latitudes of  4 principal American cities and Mexico and Cuba.Three adjustable feet on knurled screws and two green liquid filled levels.The tilting dial is engraved in Roman numerals with characters inside the ring .The finely made gnomon with a 90 degrees detente on a cam.The silvered compass bowl is engraved with Cardinal points,with the raised anciliary reading ring engraved from 0-360 degrees,a bar needle blued  for North and polished steel for South with locking mechanism,with a capstan boss and jewelled pivot.The hinged and bevelled index arm is engraved to 90 degrees.The paper covered and line tooled case is velvet lined and secures with two large gilded brass hooks.The base has a price label of either £25 or $25..
