Description

A black lacquered three draw telescope complete with end cap, leather case, sling and small tripod. The telescope is signed, ‘Lawley, 78 Farringdon Rd., London’ and measures 32″ ( 81 cms ) extended with the ray shade. It has a main lens of 2.25″ ( 55 cms ). There is a tiny chip on the edge of the lens which does not affect the viewing performance.

The case is signed, ‘Capt. A. Foster, 7th Battalion, Kings Royal Rifles.

Captain Alwyn Foster ( b. 1873, d. 1953 ) saw service in the Boer War and in 1902, as a Lieutenant in the Imperial Yeomanry, was awarded the South African medal and clasps. In 1908 he was in a small group called The Territorial Force along with Winston Churchill. In 1914 he was on the General Staff of Reserve Officers.
