Offered for sale is a heavy, large, compound, monocular microscope by Moritz Pillischer, London. Ross pattern, horseshoe shaped base, stamped “M. Pillischer, Optician, 398 Oxford St, London”, twin supports, and stage. The serial number, #56, places it in 1851. 

The supra structure consists of a brass support column, with a course focus rack system, controlled by 2 milled wheels, and a front mounted  wheel for fine focus. The main body racks to a maximum height of 50 cm, and closed to 38 cm. The serial number of the microscope and the address, places it from 1851 to 1853 ( This type of design was similar to first models of Ross and this one in particular is surely the most famous from early Pillischer. Contained in a, probably not original case (42×23.5×18 cm), in very good condition with a working lock and key. It comes with two  objectives ,  two original eyepieces, rotating mechanical stage with X-Y movement as well as rotating one. It also have a complete polarizing set, with analyzer and polarizer, substage disc stoppers and also a huge bullseye (33 cm).

Very heavy microscope, unpacked it weights more than 8.5 kg.
