Description

An all brass 2 3/4″ compass internally divided in to 4 quadrants and externally divided by a 360 degree bearing circle (overall diameter with outer ring mount is 3 1/4″). Finely engraved cardinal points, compass needle mounted on a jeweled center pivot (working), and screwed into a 4 1/4″ pear wood base with tight fitting cap. Beautiful decorative piece for the office desk. Signed Troughton & Simms, LONDON. ( no address) c.1840.
