VERY CLEAN LATTICE FRAME SEXTANT & ARTIFICIAL HORIZON IN ORIGINAL MAHOGANY DOVETAILED BOXES BOTH WITH BRASS PLAQUES ENGRAVED LORD TERENCE BROWNE. BOTH INSTRUMENTS ARE MADE BY HENRY HUGHES & SON 59 FENCHURCH STREET LONDON. THE SEXTANT HAS SILVER SCALES & VERNIER READING TO 10″ SECONDS OF ARC, WITH ALL IT’S TELESCOPES ETC. PROVENANCE: LORD TERENCE MORRIS BROWN. 9TH MARQUESS OF SLIGO ( b 28th Sept. 1873 d 28th July 1952 ) FROM WESTPORT HOUSE ON THE WEST COAST OF IRELAND IN COUNTY MAYO. THE BROWNS HAVE LIVED THERE FOR 400 YEARS. LORD TERENCE WAS INVOLVED IN POLAR EXPLORATION & WAS SUPERINTENDANT OF THE BENGAL POLICE.
