This small equinoctial dial by Horne and substantially made and is finely hand engraved throughout.The silvered dial is signed Horne & Co.Newgate St and has a sprung square profiled gnomon.The latitude arm is provisioned for readings from 0-90 degrees.The steel and jewelled bar needle is dampened for transit by a lever on the side of the casing.The compass dial is simply engraved with a decorative band in the centre.The very snug fitting case is lined with velvet in the lid and felt in the base and closes with a single brass hook and pin with a single hinge.The outer surface of the case has mouldings in black and a polished simulated burr wood finish.
