Description

Made by J Newman of 122 Regent St,his business premises from 1827-56,this brass and silvered compass has a bar needle (locked by an ivory knob),a clinometer marked 0-90,90-0 through 180 degrees,a heavily built and well engraved ancilliary ring through 360 degrees,is glazed with a moulded brass retaining bezel,and has a lacquered brass lid.It is mounted in a moulded stand in red leather with gilt lining and stands on 4 brass feet.There is provision for adjusting the pivot height via a screw in the centre of the base.
