Description

Universal equinoctial ring in brass and iron, unsigned in the spirit of Baradelle’s models and possibly a prototype.

Literature : for similar approaching model see Bedos de Celles (1706/1779) “La Gnomonique Pratique ou l’Art de tracer les Cadrans Solaires »). In 1772 Canivet built a similar ring illustrated in Sphères, l’Art des Mécaniques Célestes – Kugel pp 242/243.

Note : the bridge bears the calendar on one side and the zodiac at back. At the center of these two scales, the vernal point is situated on the 20th of March (Spring equinox) which refers to the date of the manufacture.

Dimensions : 15,5 cm diameter.
