Half a century researching, collecting and selling scientific instruments has been a special journey.

From finding rare objects now in major museums and important collections to sellingfrom my office in St James’, then exhibiting at major international fairs: London, Paris, Lyons, Milan, Parma, Zurich, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Miami, Greenwich, Houston, Dallas, New Bedford, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard.

I have served on many vetting committees and for 9 years on the Scientific Instrument Society committee.

My interests have been eclectic as I have always followed my own curiosity. My early interest was maritime antiques, navigation, the sailor’s art and scrimshaw. This led to globes, early scientific and philosophical instruments.

It has been a fascinating 50 years. I have met so many knowledgeable people united by an optimistic curiosity for the world of scientific endeavour and the instruments and discoveries that have shaped our modern world.

How come I now know so much less than when I started?
