This is a fine working example of a 19th Century, French,  Petite Sonnerie Carriage Clock, marked on the back plate "Made in France", but painted on the front Dial Plate.."Tiffany & Co. New York".   The overall construction is in brass, with 4 way bevelled glass observation sides retained in the brass frame, and an oval observation glass to the top.  It measures.....13.3cms high X 9.5cms width, and 8.5 cms depth.   The clock strikes the hour, 1/4 hour, 1/2 hour, and 3/4 hour.    When the repeating button is pressed, the striking mechanism is the same, depending on the exact time the sequence is activated.....eg, the time of 10.50, will allow 10 strikes for the hour, followed by 3 strikes to show that the time is after 10.45, and before 11.00. There are 2 hammers, sounding on a coiled gong.    The white painted dial is perfect, with no cracks, and the  clock face is painted black, with 1 - 12 in Roman numerals.     Below the clock face is a 12 hour Alarm dial.  There is a hinged rear door, to access the winding mechanisms, and to activate the alarm.  There is a fast/slow regulator to the escarpment [ probably original].  This clock is in good working order, and all phases of the striking mechanism both for normal , and repeating sequences are in order.  O/a in excellent condition, and complete with a period brass key.   For the collector of fine Carriage Clocks, as it is retailed by the prestigious New York outlet..Tiffany", this must be a desirable addition to any collection.  The initials "JJC", in old script are inscribed to the top.    C1885
