| This compass is housed in a heavy and thick brass case. The case has a brass press fit cover. The original crystal and card are in wonderful condition. The paper dial is signed "Dollond London" and it has an early, decorated East mark. The dial has a jeweled pivot. The inner gimbal moves freely. The outer gimbal sticks due to a small dent in the case that could be carefully hammered out. The height of the compass (without the cover) is 61 mm. The diameter of the cover is just over 10 cm. (102mm) This is a unique, larger size compass. The compass is in overall excellent condition without the one minor dent on the case, right in the path of the outer gimbal. The attractive black and white pattern compass points strong to North. |
