Below are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions which may be helpful:

Q    What is Fleaglass?

A    Fleaglass is a website just for reputable established antique dealers who specialise in scientific or medical instruments.  The Fleaglass Dealers tab at the top of this page will take you to a list of the participating dealers.

Q    What is a fleaglass?

A    A fleaglass is an early type of simple microscope.

Q   What are the advantages of buying on Fleaglass, compared with an internet auction site?

A   Firstly you are buying from knowledgeable dealers with a good reputation.  They provide detailed photos and accurate descriptions. Items offered for sale are selected for their condition, originality and rarity.  Dealers will draw attention to any significant restoration and all items are guaranteed genuine.  Secondly, fair, fixed prices mean purchases can be confirmed immediately. You cannot be outbid at the last moment.

Q  Are all items on Fleaglass antiques?

A  We only sell genuine antiques and collectables within our specialist fields.  We do provide dateline guidance for our dealers, this varies according to the category of item.  For example, garden sundials would normally date from before 1900 (you will find that most offered for sale on Fleaglass are in fact 18th century).  However, other categories have later datelines. Some historically significant items may be relatively modern.  Important aeronautica, and items from the dawn of electronic computing, are inevitably 20th century. Some of the most interesting slide rules and mechanical calculators were made up until the early 1970's.

Q  Can I sell my items on Fleaglass?

A  If you are a dealer, please follow the Fleaglass Membership link at the top of this page.  If you are a private individual, or institution  wishing to dispose of items, please see below:

In certain cases, Fleaglass can sell important items, or collections, on a commission basis.  This can have an advantage over selling at auction, both in terms of prices acheived and commission rates charged.  We also purchase directly from you when this is more appropriate.  Our initial online appraisal service is free.  We may refer you to a particular Fleaglass dealer if the dealer's location or specialism makes this more appropriate.  Please contact us for further details.
