A well preseved telescope in the style that became popular in the mid 18th century. This example has a retaining ring to the single draw, so is a little later, dating from around 1780 to 1790. It is a non-achromatic Schryle type, the segmented draw tube having a single eye lens, and an erecting couple, all bi-convex, and equally spaced. The objective is stopped down to about half an inch. All lenses are in good condition, and the telescope works well within its limitations. All original, no damage or repairs, no splits or cracks to the mahogany barrel, and still some traces of original lacquer on the brasswork. Length 10.6 inches (270mm) closed. ganymede stock No.35-3769. |
