A brass and part silvered sundial by Lasnier,Paris,with adjustable bird gnomon.

 The brass dial plate is engraved with the latitude scales and is signed Lasnier a Paris.The engraved compass dish is silvered and contains a blued iron needle with a circle pointer for North,capped by an octagonal brass boss with crenellated glass leveller.The glass is retained by a moulded silvered bezel.The back of the instrument is engraved for several towns and cities with their corresponding latitudes.The base of the compass bowl is engraved with latitudes for “Calais,Bruxelles,Aix,Maestrick and Londres”and “premier Cadran”.The adjustable bird gnomon is engraved for latitudes 40-60 degrees and folds against the body when not in use.Pierre Alexis Lasnier was the successor of Jean II Lefebvre and worked at the sign “Aux Deux Globes,Paris”.He is listed in Websters signature database as working from approximately 1693-1740
