The rare “Saueraker in Paris” signature on an octagonal brass surveyor cross.
This maker is unknown to bibliographers and dictionaries of French scientific instrument makers. This is Leonard Saueraker, “mechanic”, active in Paris around 1800-1830, rue du Marché-Palu 26. We were also able to locate a Saueraker “trader” in Colmar in 1810.
In addition, the present model is a little original because it has small rectangular windows at the ends of the slots to facilitate the sight. Finally, the square has retained its rare original brown leather case.
The case measures 8×7 cm in diameter.
