Dimension: case 28x15x9.5cm (11x6x4”). Microscope (fully extended) 30cm (12”).
Mid-19th century
A very complete compound microscope, so-called “drum –type”.
All the accessories are present.
Mahogany box (red-velvet lined) with internal drawer, 6 numbered bone slides, six objectives, lieberkuhn and lenses, canister, insect pin, and other.
Rackwork focusing and plane mirror (some de-silvering), original glass phial to be inserted in holes into the stand.
A VERY GOOD AND COMPLETE DRUM MICROSCOPE
The drum microscope goes back to the 1742 design of Benjamin Martin, and it continued into the 19th century.
The chief period of popularity of this particular outfit seems to have been 1820 to 1860 (G.l’E Turner).
