An folding alidade with telescope with the uncommon signature of Louis-Joseph Deleuil, “Delueil in Paris”, circa 1850.
The telescope is mounted on a long brass ruler graduated with different conversion metric scales. This is also a water level. The telescope can be folded down for easy transportation.
The instrument measures unfolded 60×20 cm. The telescope measures 39 cm lenght.
There is an old restoration with glue at the objective lens (see the last photo) but the optics still gives a clear image and a good/normal magnification.
The instrument was formerly polished.
Lousi-Joseph Deleuil’s instruments, except for his simple microscopes, are not easy to find.
