A small fruitwood diptych dial manufactured for the English speaking market with compass cardinals in English.The original silk gnomon casts its shadow on applied paper scales,in both lid and base.It is angled at 50 degrees and may be adjusted by threading through different holes in the lid,ranging from 32 to 54 degrees,none of the other settings have been used.the applied papers are decorated with floral swags and naturalistic borders and are tinted in yellow,red and green.The compass paper is tinted red and yellow and has text in English for the cardinal points only.The needle is of  chamfered blued iron and has a cross bar for North and a plain section for South,with a square section brass central boss.The case is held open with a wire hook in the back of the case and lid,and held closed with a single wire hook and eye.
