A very clean oxidised brass double frame sextant, signed on the arc, ‘Gilbert, London’, circa 1820, the silver scale reading from 0 to 145 degrees and the vernier reading to 10 arc seconds.
With fine screw and clamp under the vernier arm and thumb wheel adjuster to the telescope holder.
Some loss to the silvered horizon mirror, the index mirror and seven shades are excellent.
All in excellent original condition, the keystone case has a shrinkage crack to the base and also to a small corner of the lid, retains original lock & key and holds three sighting tubes and an eye piece filter (the case lacks one telescope).

I live in Lancashire (U.K.) and have been a dealer and collector of scientific and nautical instruments for a number of years. My stock has included some fine items from museums and colleges, which were surplus to their requirements. I occasionally purchase some interesting items from abroad, having established some reliable sources.
