An unusual and of good-size example of a fix latitude brass horizontal sundial signed, underside, with a large signature “Maulevaut A Paris”.
The dial measures 8,7×7,2 cm and it preserved in its original leather cased lined in green velvet.
The plate is engraved two times, “pour 49 degrez” [for 49 degrees] so the latitude of Paris.
An hour scale of IIII [sic] to XII and I to VII is engraved with floral decorations on the plate.
The fixed gnomon is superbly engraved.
Jean Maulevaut was active in Paris from 1712 to 1720 and his widow, active from 1720-1730, gave her shop to Claude Langlois around 1730.
Despite some traces of antique cleaning, excellent condition for this octogonal Butterfield-type sundial of good size, single-latitude and with an excellent signature.
