A rare signed wooden Irish Zograscope and a large example.
The zograscope is signed on its two steel folding elements : “Nelson Lr [Lower] Ormond Qy [Quay] Dublin.”
William H. Nelson was established in Dublin at 1840-62, 37 or 42 Lower Ormond Quay in Dublin between 1840 et 1862 so we can date this example from 1840s’.
This is a quite large example of Zograscope. The lens measures 11 cm diameter, the original mirror 19,5×14 cm. The large round base is reinforced with a circle of lead to stabilize it.
The height is 59 to 70 cm.
All wooden and steel parts are in perfect original condition.
The large biconxes lens too. The original mirror is a little worn (see pictures) so it doesn”t reflect perfectly anymore.
Otherwise a rare UK signed example of Zograscope.
