SOLD – A beautifully hand written journal or manuscript titled, ‘British Naval Gunnery’ and sub-titled, ‘Instructions for the Exercise and Service of Great Guns on board Her Majestys Ships’, by A. Stewart with a notation in black ink by Captain, later Admiral, Sir Hastings on board H.M.S. Excellent, dated 14th May 1844.
Hardback measuring 24 cms x 20 cms, 291 pages, all hand written in black ink with diagrams, pictures, tables, explanations etc (all by hand by the author) and bound with string.
The contents include many aspects of loading and using naval guns, howitzers, gun lock, gun carriages, corronades, Congreve’s rockets, small wooden gun, wooden gun excercise, mortar excercise, field pice excercise, cutlass exercise, throwing guns overboard, handspike drill, etc. In great descriptive detail including diagrams shown with full explanations of their use.
This is a fascinating book, hand written by the author and has never gone to print.
Surely the new owner of the book will also inherit the copyright to it?
