German Zeiss dissecting microscope, circa 1890

Engraved on the stage frame 22463 Carl Zeiss Jena.
Stamped mark on foot: AGENT C. BAKER 244 HIGH HOLBORN LONDON.

Advertised in the Zeiss 1885 catalogue as their Dissecting Stand 1 after Paul Mayer, without lenses it sold for 100 Marks.

Height to stage top 4,3/8″ or 112mm
The stage and foot are blackened brass, other parts are polished nickel plated brass now mostly showing as brass.
Focusing by rack and pinion on the column, the lenses mounted on the double pivoted arm.
Three drop in stage insert plates of plain vulcanite, blackened brass and blackened brass with cutout to control black and white sub shutters, some fittings for other sub stage options.
The concave sub stage mirror with celluloid back white light reflector, mounted on a double pivoted arm.
Fitted folding mahogany arm rests one number stamped.
With two lenses (space for only one in door back block) E. Leitz Wetzlar 16X and Flatters and Garnett LTD 8X
Nice and tight and in good working order, the black finish much worn on the stage.
Fine mahogany herringbone dovetailed fitted box, with original Art Nouveau style carrying handle, working lock and Z key.
The box 9,1/8″ x 7,3/8″ x 7,1/8″ or 232 x 187 x 182 mm. in excellent condition with only very light scratches from use.
Gross weight 4.9 kilos.
