SOLD – Circa 1770 – 1800 marine telescope with a tapered wooden barrel and single brass, fully retractable, drawtube. The barrel is constructed in fruitwood and is free of cracks / splits but it has become slightly curved (see pics). These style of telescopes are usually found with a length of 12″ / 13″ but this one measures 26″. The internal lenses have ‘nibbles’ to the diameter edges – a normal thing to find on hand cut glass lenses of the period. There are dust sliders at both the eyepiece end and objective glass end and viewing is very good and clear.

I live in Lancashire (U.K.) and have been a dealer and collector of scientific and nautical instruments for a number of years. My stock has included some fine items from museums and colleges, which were surplus to their requirements. I occasionally purchase some interesting items from abroad, having established some reliable sources.
