VERY GOOD CORNISH LEAN DIAL SIGNED WILLIAM WILTON ST DAY CORNWALL. RARE EXAMPLE OF NON-OPTICAL MINING THEODOLITE BY THE ACCOMPLISHED MINING INSTRUMENT MAKER WILLIAM WILTON OF ST DAY  IN ORIGINAL MAHOGANY BOX 9.1/2 x 9″ x 5″. THE DIAL HAS INTERCHANGABLE SIGHTS & VERTICAL HALF CIRCLE DIVIDED IN DEGREES & DIFFERENCE OF HYPOTENUSE. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A LEAN DIAL ATTRIBUTED TO JOEL LEAN ( A CORNISH MINE CAPTAIN ) I BELIEVE IT WAS DESIGNED BY ROBERT WERE FOX, PLEASE SEE WILTONS TRADE CARD & FOX’S MINING THEODOLITE, THEY SEEM TO BE ONE OF THE SAME. FOX & LEAN WERE FRIENDS AND ALSO QUAKERS, WILTON MADE INSTRUMENTS TO FOX’S DESIGNES & INVENTIONS E.G. FOX’S FAMOUS DIP CIRCLE ( ALSO PICTURED ON WILTONS TRADE CARD ) MAGNETIC BALANCE etc. THE SILVERED COMPASS HAS CROSS SPIRIT LEVELS, 5″ dia.Contact Email: m.jread@btinternet.com
