EARLY BRASS DIVIDERS

17th century, England

6 ¼” (16 cm) tall

Brass with inset steel points.

This elegant dividers has 8-sided knob, hand-shaped shoulders, precision points.

One steel point can be detached from the body, being secured with a butterfly screw.

 

This form can be seen in period portraits, for instance the 1666 engraving of Elias Allen.
