Description
IMPRESSIVE SILVER DRAFTING SET, English, c. late 18th century, signed “R. Marsh, London.” The splendid rectangular case measures 6-3/4″ (17 cm) tall constructed of wood covered in fine green rayskin with silver fittings. The set is complete and apparently all original with silver-hinged ivory sector, ivory rectangular protractor / architect¹s rule / Gunter’s rule, ivory parallel rule with exquisite large silver scissors hinge giving very smooth non-shifting parallel motion, plus instruments in silver and steel: large dividers, auxiliary hinged pencil holder, auxiliary hinged adjustable ink pen, hand-held adjustable ink pen with removable scriber as handle, miniature adjustable ink compass, hand held pencil holder, large dividers with fine adjustment, and combination file / quill knife / screwdriver / tightening tool. In very fine condition, probably lacking a small owner’s plaque on the case.
Little is known of the maker of this splendid set, but he/she has a brief entry in Clifton.
