An extremely rare signed autograph letter of Pierre Le Maire son dated from the 13 Octobre 1739 and wrote from “quay de l’orloge du Palais / au coin de la rue de Harlay” with his wax seal to “M. Pellerin, premier commis de Monsieur le Comte de Maurepas”.
In 1739, the Compte de Maurepas was the Minister of Navy during the reign of Louis XV.
Pierre Le Maire wrote to Pellerin to know how and where he have to ship the “instruments à prandre auteur que Monsieur le Comte de Maurepas m’a commandée” [instrument for taking height that Sir Cmpte Maurepas ordered to me”].
The “instruments sont tous pres ou j’ay fait quelque adission pour leur perfection” [The instruments are all ready [to be shiped] where I made some improvement for their perfection”].
It’s the only one autograph letter which seems known from Lemaire’s family given interesting and unknown information about an official order from the French Minister of Navy.
