Description
Although unsigned, this set of wooden sliders (7 in all-zoological subjects (1-6) and aquatic zoophyte trough) were made to accompany a Carpenter & Westley Phantasmagoria Magic Lantern c.1850. Brass adaptor for attachment to the rear of the projector and a mirror set at 45 degrees for projectionist viewing or hand held using using natural daylight. Rarely if ever used, the sliders are perfect with fine natural specimens (many insects), the mirror having two areas of silvering loss through oxidation over the past 170 years. Pine box with twin hooks, brass escutcheon and lock (no key) measures 16 x 14 x 8 cm. deep. Adaptor to the lantern is 55 mm. (coarse thread). Brass work is bright with all original lacquer, perfect optics, large format sliders.
