Description

SOLD – A very good nickel silver, single draw taper barrel, flag panelled telescope, signed on the draw tube, ‘Dollond, London’ and also, ‘Sir Godfrey Webster, Bart’. The length is 25.5″ ( 64 cms ) with the draw tube closed, it has an objective lens of 4 cms aperture, complete with lens cap and dust slider to the eye piece. The barrel is covered in thick brown tan leather, the panel shows compass signals and flags, the centre of the signal chart circle signed, ‘A.B. Myers, Portsmouth’. The leather and stitching is all in excellent condition and the telescope gives an excellent image when viewing, the lenses all damage free. One tiny screw missing from the front collar.

 

Sir Godfrey Webster was born 3rd July 1815 and succeeded as 6th Baronet on 17th June 1836, he entered the Royal Navy on 8th November 1828 and rose to Lieutenant 10/01/ 1840. He served at the Siege of Acre and died in 1854.
