Description

Unusual open faced pocket fob patent compass, circa 1915. The needle with S and N silhouettes, pivoted between the dial and a screw bush in the center of the S shaped transverse bridge, the glass in a rotating knurled bezel moving to set the direction arrow. The mat silvered dial marked Biland 1915 Swiss Patent 83025 French Patent 76117 and a monogram aBc ? for Biland Nickel plated brass case, the back engraved SINCLAIR HAYMARKET LONDON Probably intended for military use, diameter 1,11/16″ or 43mm, weight 36 grams. In very good condition with no damage or repair, slight wear to the mat silvered finish on the dial.
