Description
Now, what do you think of this! It is a large slice of limestone containing many fish named “Knightia Alta”. These come from one of the places of exceptional instances of preservation, the Green River Formation in the eastern Rockies of the USA.
These vast lakes contained many fish. From time to time there were huge volcanic disturbances that deposited ash onto the lake suffocating the fish. Or there were periodic droughts where parts of the lake dried out leaving large numbers of dead fish.
The lakes developed over seven million years (plenty of time for a swim!). The fish come from the Green River Formation, Wyoming. This fish plaque is quite striking and you don’t see many of this number and quality. The frame is simple stained wood that doesn’t take away from the plaque. Yet, the whole piece is striking. And the best news is that the price is extremely reasonable.
